A divorce is also known as a dissolution of marriage in Washington State. In Washington State a marriage can be between a man and woman or a same-sex couple. The process is started by filing a petition for dissolution of marriage and having the other party personally served.
There is a ninety day waiting period in Washington State. The ninety days starts at the later of the filing or service of petition and summons for dissolution. Even if the parties agree on all aspects of the dissolution they still must wait out the ninety days.
